Description
Located in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of Auvergne Volcanoes in the glacial valley of the Jordanne, Lac des Graves is protected by the majestic Puy Mary and its 1,725 meters above sea level. It benefits from a mid-mountain environment particularly wild. The valley, free from all intensive cultivation and from any industry, therefore of pollution, provides the trout with water of excellent quality, which in addition to its extreme clarity has a pH of around 7.2. A guarantee of stability of physico-chemical balances.
Lac des Graves is an old gravel pit that was put into water in the early 2000s and has an average depth of 15 meters with two pits of more than 25 meters in the middle of the lake. It is fed by a multitude of resurgences, which allows a permanent thermocline and guarantees a constant bottom temperature of 8 °.
Such a mass of water does not cool easily, so the constant bottom temperature guarantees the fishermen to find fish in activity as well in the heart of winter, as even in the hottest heat wave summer!
The fishing spot is 80% accessible from the shore, which leaves a wide field of investigation. In fine weather, the surface layer warms up and is occupied by trout in search of insects. Thus, in these waters of a rare transparency, it is frequent according to the luminosity to locate the fish evolving between 0 and 5 meters under the surface and that even several tens of meters of the edge. This favors in all respects the practice of fly fishing with dry and nymph at sight with small models very lightly weighted. If we remain discreet, it is not uncommon to make several takes without moving from the spot.
The shallow littoral areas are those that produce most of the fish feed. They benefit from insects : chironomes, sedges, ephemera, damsels, sialis ... constitute the essential of the entomological inventory. The minnows abound on the edges and are part of the trout dish, which makes them extremely combative.
