Description

The Saint-Étienne-Cantalès reservoir is located in the cities of Saint-Gérons (left bank) and Saint-Étienne-Cantalès (right bank). It retains the waters of the river Cère and Authre and at a height of 69 meters.

It was inaugurated in 1945. Water reservoir spreading over 561 hectares, renowned for the presence of good fish populations such as pike, perch, zander, catfish and also cyprinids. We can even sometimes catch some rainbow trout that come from fish farms and that we have great surprises by offering beautiful fights. 

It is one of the most productive reservoir of the Massif Central, and it is also one of the cradles of vertical fishing in France. The fish are growing rapidly, with a high survival rate of juveniles, linked to the abundance of food in the first year (plankton). An inventory conducted by ONEMA indicates "optimal" growth conditions for zander, the first year. This great abundance of varied food results in an indisputable wealth of carnivores and rapid growth.
